In the BW duel, the Bietigheim Steelers scored an important win against the Schwenninger Wild Wings. The Adler Mannheim were able to defeat the EHC Munich in the top game.
The Wild Wings goalkeeper, Marvin Cüpper, who guarded the Schwenninger’s goal for the corona-positive Joacim Eriksson, could not prevent the guests from taking the lead in the ninth minute. Alex Preibisch scored for the bottom of the table from Bietigheim.
Before the first third break, however, the home side equalized with Alexander Karatchun’s stab. In the second period, too, both teams gave each other nothing. Again the Steelers took the lead. This time the Canadian Riley Sheen scored the goal. Ken André Olimb equalized the Wild Wings after 28 minutes.
Steelers turn up
The last third was then clearer and surprisingly clear: The Steelers turned up in front of the almost 3,000 spectators and not only decided the third, but also the game with two goals from Evan Jasper and one goal from American Charles Stretch 5-2. It was a bitter defeat for the penultimate Schwenningen against bottom light Bietigheim in the end. The Bietigheimer had previously lost four games in a row.
Adler Mannheim with overtime win against Munich
Nigel Dawes crowned Adler Mannheim’s chase in the top game against EHC Munich. With his goal in overtime, he shot the table runner-up to a 3-2 win over the leaders. Trevor Parks had initially shot Munich in the lead in the Mannheim SAP Arena (17th). Lean Bergmann was able to equalize in the meantime (23rd), but Frank Mauer shot the guests in the lead again (30th) and Mannheim was again behind.
Up to the last minute – goalkeeper Felix Brückmann had already left the ice to allow the Eagles to outnumber them with an additional field player. Jorden Szwarz took advantage of that and shot Mannheim into overtime (59th), in which Nigel Dawes made the perfect victory.
Adler Mannheim still in second place
Curious: The Adler Mannheim remain in second place in the DEL table, although they have seven points more than the front runner Munich. However, during the Corona season, the DEL clubs agreed that the points-per-game quotient should be rated higher than the pure points. And because Munich got its 39 points in only 19 games due to corona (about 2.05 points per game), Bayern are ahead of Mannheim with 46 points from 23 games (2.00 points per game).
