Tsitsipas substitute Cameron Norrie demanded everything from Casper Ruud in the second duel of the green group at the ATP Finals in Turin – and then lost.
ATP Finals in Turin, Casper Ruud
The Greek tennis professional Stefanos Tsitsipas (23) has withdrawn from the ATP Finals in Turin due to an elbow injury. The organizer announced this. The world number four Tsitsipas did not appear in his second game in the green group. The Briton Cameron Norrie (26) slipped into the field as a substitute.
World ranking twelfth Norrie lost to Norwegian Casper Ruud on Wednesday evening after winning the first set 6: 1, 3: 6, 4: 6. Ruud (22), who was the first Norwegian to qualify for the ATP Finals, thus kept his chance of making it to the semi-finals of the year-end tournament. The Serbian world number one Novak Djokovic has already been selected as the semi-finalist from this group.
Tsitsipas had lost in his first game of the unofficial World Cup against Russian Andrej Rublow on Monday. Two weeks ago he had given up at the Masters tournament in Paris because of an arm injury.
In Turin, Tsitsipas is the second player to drop out of the tournament after the Italian Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini (25).
