Augsburg FC Augsburg have to continue the battle to stay relegated without midfielder Tobias Strobl. The 31-year-old has suffered a cruciate ligament rupture and is out for the rest of the season, as the Bundesliga club announced.
Strobl sustained the injury in the game at VfL Wolfsburg, where he had been substituted before the break. “That is of course bitter news for Tobias and our team”, commented FCA coach Markus Weinzierl on the premature end of the season. The Swabians would now have to absorb the long-term failure as a team.
Strobl had already missed the season opener due to an ankle injury. Since the 7th matchday he was in the starting line-up in all Augsburg competitive games. The club gave the all-clear to Florian Niederlechner, who was also injured against Wolfsburg. The offensive player got away with a metatarsal bruise.
