TuS Metzingen: Danish Petersen will play for German handball women in the future

Germany’s handball women will receive additional staff shortly before the World Cup.

Born in Denmark, Silje Brøns Petersen from Bundesliga club TuS Metzingen received German citizenship on Wednesday and is now eligible to play in the DHB selection.

Nomination for the game against Russia on Sunday

The 26-year-old backcourt player was immediately appointed to the squad for the international match against Russia on Sunday in Düsseldorf by national coach Henk Groener and could make her debut there in the DHB jersey.

Petersen, who has been a member of the TuS Metzingen squad since 2020, was born in the Copenhagen suburb of Herlev and began her handball career in Denmark. Her first club in Germany was HSG Blomberg-Lippe, for which Petersen played from 2016-2020 before moving to Metzingen.

Petersen is also eligible to play at the World Cup in Spain

“With Silje Brøns Petersen we get another alternative to the playmaker position. She has shown consistently good performances in the Bundesliga over the past few years,” said Groener. At the World Cup in Spain from December 1st to 19th, the German team will face the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary in the preliminary round.
