Three Tottenham players made by appointment of Antonio Conte

Three Tottenham players who could see their careers affected by the appointment of Antonio Conte

Conte and the expected tactical scheme in Tottenham

With the appointment of Antonio Conte now confirmed at Tottenham, there are expectations of how Spurs will look on the field in quick succession under the heavy-handed Italian coach.

Conte is one of the main defenders of a 3-5-2 deployment and has enjoyed a great deal of success using his favorite scheme wherever he goes.

Although former boss Nuno Espírito Santo preferred the same entry-level system when he was at Wolves, he was unable to replicate it, or even improve it, when he was in North London and Tottenham struggled mightily to find goals under the Portuguese manager.

But Conte is a master at extracting goals from a three-on-the-back system, and that notion was on full display when he was in charge of both. Chelsea and Inter Milan, where both clubs averaged more than 2 goals / game under his command.

However, the former Juventus and Italy international midfielder is also a manager as demanding as any other. There is a required level of understanding, commitment, and the right attitude, while also being able to tactically adapt to your needs and offer the right profile for a player to thrive under your guidance.

With that in mind, here are three players who could turn their fortunes, one way or another, with Conte now in charge at Tottenham.

Lucas Moura; Tottenham sidelined potential

There was a lot of faith placed on Lucas Moura’s shoulders during Nuno Espírito Santo’s short reign, with the Brazilian forward being called up thirteen times this season.

But for Moura, the problem could come in a direct clash with a particular tactical directive that will surely take root in Tottenham from this weekend with Conte; lack of true extremes.

With Conte’s preference to use a pair of prowling center and side strikers on both flanks, there is little room to suggest that Moura will be more than just a deep under Conte option and will soon find himself on the bench regularly unless he can drive to displace one of Harry Kane or Son Heung-min.

Tanguy Ndombélé; a chance to fix things

With a lack of true creators in the central areas under Conte, the confidence that central midfielders can reliably contribute on both sides of the ball will be key for the Italian as soon as possible.

Although Danish stalwart Pierre-Emile Højbjerg should remain a key player under Conte at Tottenham, the likes of Tanguy Ndomdélé have a chance to audition again for their supporting roles in North London.

Ndombélé has never achieved the kind of form that saw him star in Olympique Lyonnais since arriving in England in the summer of 2019. At just 24 years old and with a full package in midfield, Ndombélé has every chance to rejuvenate his career in the Spurs. .

Matt Doherty; Count the right boss for him

Despite the purchase of Emerson Royal from Barcelona this summer which saw him a lot abroad looking for minutes so far in 2021-22 (only 7 minutes on record so far), Irish international Matt Doherty could have a considerable opportunity to press. for more time in a system under Conte which will largely depend on a position in which you thrive.

Despite Royal’s young age (22) and budding potential, Doherty is not only a seasoned Premier League veteran, but has made a name for himself at Wolves as a highly effective right-back in more than 300 appearances for the Wolves.

With the demands placed on his position under Conte’s new regime at Tottenham, Doherty now has the window to put pressure on Royal for minutes on the field that he might not otherwise have had previously.
