The personal factor that influenced Antonio Conte to take over Tottenham

Recently, an insight has been provided as to why Antonio Conte chose to take over for Tottenham following the firing of Nuno Espirito Santo.

Conte accepts Tottenham’s job

In a kind of coup, the Spurs were able to fire Nuno, who had them play less than impressive football and struggling to score goals, and replace the Portuguese with Antonio Conte.

Conte has signed an initial agreement until 2023, with an option to extend:

The personal reason that played a role in Conte to take Tottenham’s job

Given that Tottenham have won just one trophy this century and have been in decline since the 2019 Champions League final, it was a bit of a surprise to see Conte join the club.

The Italian is one of the best active coaches in world football right now, beginning Juventus’s reign of dominance over Serie A before ending it last season while coaching Inter Milan.

Conte has also previously won the Premier League in dominant fashion with Chelsea.

So why has Conte chosen to take what appears to be a serious demotion, given that he could probably hold the majority of jobs in world football?

Well, Duncan Castles from The Transfer Window Podcast has shed some light on that situation recently.

Castles first outlined what the plan is for Conte at Tottenham:

I think the plan is to stabilize this season, if you can, get a place in the Champions League and then we will put a lot of money in the market to build a team that can win the Champions League.

That is good in the sense that Conte has accepted it and is convinced. The question mark, obviously, is whether Daniel Levy will agree to the promise his sporting director has made.

Castles then added that Conte’s family wanting to return to England, particularly for their daughter’s education, played a major role in the former Juve boss taking over the Spurs job:

There is also an element of your family who wants to return to England. His 14-year-old daughter, Victoria, for her educational purposes, were eager to return to London, and they told me that this personal factor has influenced this decision.
