When Newcastle United expect to announce their Unai Emery coup

Revealed: When Newcastle United hope to announce their Unai Emery hit

Unai Emery the no.

News has come in today that Unai Emery is set to fill Steve Bruce’s shaped hole at Newcastle United, after the club parted ways with the latter last week.

According to Athletic’s David Ornstein, Emery is the current favorite of the new owners to handle the role, which would see him take over for a club that have yet to win a game all season and find themselves in the relegation zone. It is a far cry from the European glory that the Spaniard experienced with Villareal just a few months ago.

But when can fans expect the change to occur?

An appointment is expected “before the weekend”

Now, according to the Daily Mail, this may be a fast-moving managerial appointment, with the announcement expected before the weekend.

Villareal, Unai Emery’s current team, will face the Champions League battle with the Young Boys tonight (Tuesday) and it is therefore unlikely that there will be any further updates on the management situation sooner. Wednesday at the earliest.

The Magpies are heading to the South Coast to face Brighton at Amex Stadium on Saturday night, and if the reports are true, it could well represent Unai Emery’s first game in charge of the Tyneside club.

If he did join (and there is still an element of possibility), it would represent a massive blow to the new owner, having won four Europa League titles previously, in addition to reaching the final of the competition in his only full season at Arsenal.

Of course, he would not be expected to repeat the feats with the magpies, but he would certainly be a sure pair of hands to propel them up the Premier League table.
