A noteworthy update on the contractual status of Barcelona’s multi-talented star Sergi Roberto will be released on Monday night.
Alaba and Vázquez in goal
Of course, Ronald Koeman’s men were back in action just over 24 hours ago.
On the back of something of a mini revival from the international break, the Blaugrana welcomed fierce rival Real Madrid at the Camp Nou, aiming to score three wins out of three in all competitions.
However, when all was said and done on Sunday afternoon, Barça plummeted firmly back to earth.
A thoroughly disappointing display finally culminated with the hosts being put to the sword by two goals to one, to slip five points adrift from Carlo Ancelotti’s whites topping the table.
Goals from David Alaba and Lucas Vázquez made all the difference on the day, and Sergio Agüero’s effort in injury time represented little more than comfort at the final whistle.
What a way for David Alaba to advertise on #The classic! 😱😱

In turn, we should not be too surprised to hear of a strong backlash in the Catalan capital during the last 24 hours.
Chief Ronald Koeman, for example, was the recipient of verbal and physical harassment in his attempts to get out of yesterday’s crash in his car:

As such, it’s safe to say that the Blaugrana faithful, still reeling from Lionel Messi’s departure and trying to make their way through a miserable season opener, could use some good news.
And, if the last word from the Spanish media is something to go through, then precisely that could be on the horizon.
Of course, it is common knowledge that Sergi Roberto, in the Camp Nou books since 2006, has never represented the most popular figure among Barcelona’s fan base.
However, the versatile defender / midfielder continues to play an important role in shaping the club’s first team. Roberto was even introduced from the bench during the second half of Sunday.
However, according to a report by the Spanish newspaper UF, the 29-year-old, somewhat unexpected, now seems prepared for an imminent Blaugrana departure.
It is stated that the contract negotiations between Roberto and the Camp Nou hierarchy have reached a dead end, due to the duration of the terms offered.
In turn, with the La Masia youth product agreement that expires in 2022, the decision has been made for Roberto to move forward.
