Tuchel opens the door regarding Ziyech and lack of playing time at Chelsea

Thomas Tuchel explains Hakim Ziyech's lack of playing time at Chelsea

Tuchel sheds light on Ziyech’s Chelsea struggles

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has given a fresh take on Blues attacking midfielder Hakim Ziyech today, presenting his own theory as to why the Moroccan has failed to replicate his preseason form in the current Premier League campaign. 2021-22.

According to Soccer, London, Tuchel believes that the former stalwart Ajax Amsterdam player may still be suffering the aftermath of his injury, physical or otherwise, after preseason form proposed Ziyech as a Chelsea star this season;

“He struggled to make his way on the team, he was on the team at the beginning of the season because of the performance, because it was so obvious after the preseason that he had to be on the field.

To begin with, he was on the field, he scored and then he was injured in the Super Cup game and from there I felt that it cost him a lot because perhaps until today I do not feel 100% free with his back.

Surely when we played with him and made him play more than 90 minutes, we started him several times after that, we started him in the Premier League and the Champions League, I felt that even if maybe it is not pain, even if it is unconscious, subconscious, there is something that limits him in his movements and in his freedom to move, turn, accelerate and decelerate, and I think he needs time and patience to work his way back to the team.

The Moroccan has not been able to replicate the form of Ajax

When Chelsea bought Hakim Ziyech from Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam for € 34 million in the summer of 2020-21 as part of a massive recruiting drive that saw the club also recruit Kai Havertz, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Edouard Mendy, Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr, many saw Ziyech as a potential dark horse to really help Chelsea move forward.

While Chelsea have indeed kicked under Tuchel after the club parted ways with former midfielder Frank Lampard, Ziyech has failed to put into practice his creative qualities and the additional goal threat regularly seen at Ajax.

The Moroccan has managed just 7 goals and 4 assists in 45 appearances in all competitions for the Blues since his arrival, a far cry from the 49 goals and 81 assists produced at the Amsterdam Arena.

With Chelsea now under Tuchel and leading the Premier League with deep pockets in attacking positions, the only chance Ziyech has to press for an extended period at Stamford Bridge is to replicate the form seen in the preseason.
