Roma coach José Mourinho responds to ties with Newcastle

José Mourinho admits 'connection' to Newcastle in response to links from Magpies posts

AS Roma coach José Mourinho on Saturday offered his opinion on speculation linking the Portuguese to the soon-to-be-vacant hot seat at Newcastle United.

Ashley keep going

The issue of the bank in St. James’ Park, of course, has been at the center of the headlines for the past week.

This is due to the speculated Newcastle takeover which was finally pushed over the line on Thursday night, opening the door to a potentially seismic shift in the English football landscape.

The new heads of Saudi Arabia’s magpies are understood to boast of dazzling financial backing exceeding £ 300bn, making the Tyneside team the richest club in world football.

‘100% focused’

With a lot of money undoubtedly on the horizon as early as January, Newcastle’s loyal fanbase, in turn, have made their enthusiasm clear when it comes to the club’s prospects over the course of the past week.

Yet in the midst of the wellness factor at St. James’, one person who has actually taken something of a hit from the change of hands at the club is Steve Bruce.

Following widespread speculation that his position was under immediate threat after Ashley’s departure, word It was announced last weekend that Bruce is now “on the brink” of being relieved of his place on the bank in Tyneside.

As a result, rumors have since started to circulate about who will be chosen by Yasir Al-Rumayyan and co. as the man to replace Bruce and oversee a potentially prosperous new era in North East England.

The likes of Antonio Conte and Frank Lampard have been inclined for the position, although Everton boss Rafael Benítez has apparently was discarded of the career.

And, on Saturday, another of those who have seen his name linked to the post has moved too far to distance himself from such a perspective.

Speaking to the media ahead of his team’s decisive meeting with Juventus on Sunday night, AS Roma manager José Mourinho was drawn tonight by the prospect of taking the reins in Newcastle.

The Portuguese, however, while admitting a ‘connection’ to both the people and the city of Newcastle, was eager to ensure that he remains fully committed to the ongoing ‘project’ in the Italian capital:

“I have nothing to say about Newcastle.”

‘I worked with Mr. [Bobby] Robson [at Barcelona ], one of the greatest in the club’s history, and I’ve always had a connection with those people and that city that I know well by now. ‘

But nothing else. I’m 100% project-focused with the Roma-Friedkin ‘project.
