The latest on Antonio Rudiger and Chelsea’s defensive options for Brentford

What Chelsea Training Suggests About Rudiger Availability And How The Blues Could Line Up Against Brentford

A fresh perspective on the availability of Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger for the club’s meeting with Brentford on Saturday has been posted online.

Rudi doubts

Concerns over the well-being of Chelsea’s prominent Rudiger, of course, began to spread last weekend.

The 28-year-old, fresh off a stellar start to the campaign, was called up by Germany, unsurprisingly, for the nation’s final round of international matches.

Rudiger started and participated for the 90 minutes last Friday night, when Die Mannschaft beat Romania in a World Cup qualifying clash.

In turn, it was undoubtedly seen as a blow by fans not only in Germany, but also Chelsea, when news began to emerge that the former Roma player had been injured.

After missing a place in the country’s team of the day to face North Macedonia, the official Twitter account of the German team confirmed that Rudiger suffered from ‘back problems’:

Key defenders absent

Thomas Tuchel and company, back in West London, had been eagerly awaiting an additional update on the fitness of their stalwart defender.

And while the official word has yet to come courtesy of Chelsea itself, the latest footage from the club’s training ground paint a completely clear picture of the situation.

According to a large number of sources, ‘Rudi’ was not seen in Cobham on Thursday afternoon.

As a result, the German is highly unlikely to be involved in the Blues’ return to Premier League action against Brentford this weekend.

With Thiago Silva also looking to lose himself before a late return from international duty with Brazil, Thomas Tuchel therefore appears willing to rely on a back-5 from Reece James, Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen, Trevoh Chalobah and one from Marcos Alonso. or Ben Chilwell at Brentford Community Stadium.
