Mikel Arteta hints that Matteo Guendouzi's career at Arsenal is not over yet

Arsenal and Matteo Guendouzi temporarily separate

Arsenal signed Matteo Guendouzi in 2018 from Lorient in Ligue 2 and, in his inaugural campaign with the club, they were sure they had discovered another gem. The Frenchman featured a whopping 48 times when he launched into Premier League football with Unai Emery like a duck overboard, but struggled when Mikel Arteta took over.

Abandoned as a result of various disciplinary and injury issues, the then 20-year-old midfielder spent the 2020/21 season on loan at Hertha Berlin, before leaving last summer for Marseille on an initial loan deal.

However, while the deal was reported as a purchase obligation, it was announced as a purchase option by Ligue 1, leaving the reality of the situation unknown.

Does Guendouzi have a future at Arsenal?

And, judging by Mikel Arteta’s recent comments about the French midfielder, his career at Arsenal may not be over. Talking to the media Before the Gunners hosted Crystal Palace in the Emirates, the Arsenal manager was asked about the possibility of calling Guendouzi in January and said:

So far he’s gone for the season, and I think he’s having a very good run in Marseille, and it’s part of the plan we made with him, and he has continued with his development, and we will make a decision at the end of the year.

When the journalist pressed him further on whether Guendouzi had a chance to play for Arsenal again, Arteta refused to rule him out, saying:

“I don’t think you can say that [he has played his last game for Arsenal] about a player who was owned by the club “

Could Arsenal fans see Matteo Guendouzi step onto the Emirates turf in red and white once again?
