Manchester United seek to sign the midfielder in January when a ‘clear objective’ emerges

Manchester United seek to sign the midfielder in January when a 'clear objective' emerges

An insight into Manchester United’s plans for January was provided this week.

Manchester United need a defensive midfielder

Man United would have a solid 2021 summer window in which all of Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo arrived at Old Trafford.

But despite a fairly successful window, there is still one glaring problem area that the Manchester giants must address, which comes, of course, in defensive midfield.

There are a couple of reasons for this, the main one being to give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the license to play Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba in the same midfield three, without being overly exposed on defense.

Pogba is a quality midfielder, but when playing pivot alongside Fred or Scott McTominay, it’s safe to say that United seem vulnerable.

And even when pivot ‘McFred’ is deployed, it’s still clear that Man United lacks quality in that area.

The easy solution to this would be to sign a top-notch defensive midfielder, something United currently doesn’t have on their books.

Man United’s January Eye Move

And, if a report from a Spanish media Transfers proves to be true, then Man United fans shouldn’t have to wait too long to see a new midfielder on their squad.

The Spanish media reports that:

The ‘Red Devils’ will seek at all costs to sign a positional midfielder in January to solve many problems in the exit of the ball.

And it seems that Manchester United already knows which midfielder they want to target.

That player, according to Transfers, is Wilfred Ndidi of Leicester City, who is described as the clear target:

Manchester United already know who will look for the next transfer market: Wilfred Ndidi. The Leicester City midfielder is the clear target to reinforce the pivot position of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team

Ndidi is 24 years old and ranks quite high when looking at tackles and interceptions made – two of the main skills needed in a defensive midfielder.

Ndidi would rank fourth in PL for tackles made in 2020/21, with 108 points. He also made the most tackles of any player in midfield 3rd last season (49).

And, he ranked fourth overall for most interceptions made and is 2nd.North Dakota best midfielder on that list with 62.
