Raphinha praised after impressive performance from Brazil

Leeds United winger Raphinha has received praise from veteran Brazilian international and Chelsea center-back Thiago Silva after the Selection fought through a frustrating 0-0 draw against Colombia.

The tie in Barranquilla ended Brazil’s record of 100% in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying round, but Raphinha dazzled in his impressive substitute appearance half an hour after replacing striker Gabriel Barbosa.

Silva was impressed by the influential white winger and said so in post-match quotes on UOL quoted by Leeds Live through The Boot Room;

โ€œIf we had managed to win, we would be talking more about them [Raphinha & Antony].

The boys showed a quality that I have hardly seen in more than ten years with the Brazilian team [of newcomers]. It’s really cool to see Raphinha and Antony showing personality. In terms of sympathy, it lacks a bit, but the individual is at a high level.

Such was the nature of his display that Raphinha received the highest match rating from the Brazilian media. Balloon Sports after immediately becoming the most creative outlet for Tite’s unit.

The growing stature could influence the future of the club

There are some who have begun to suggest that Raphinha’s growing stature among the Brazilian soccer community could lead to the player pushing to move to greener pastures.

Former Aston Villa forward Gabriel Agbonlahor, now an expert, spoke with Football Insider and made the claim that the Brazilian spark plug could be separated from Elland Road unless Leeds continues to invest in the first team;

I think it will be very difficult. Leeds need more investment in their team, they need to start buying players who can keep them fighting even higher up the table. Over the next year, year and a half, people like Raphinha will leave, other clubs will turn it around.

Raphinha is entering the Brazilian national teams, now she plays for Brazil. You will not want to play for Leeds, you will want to move and play for a bigger club that is playing in the Champions League. Someone of the quality of Raphinha should be playing in the Champions League โ€.

Whether or not Raphinha will have her head turned by other clubs remains to be seen, but it is certainly difficult to see her long-term future built around Leeds unless the club can match her rapid progression.
