Arsenal legend Thierry Henry questions Mikel Arteta’s future amid claims of lack of direction

Mikel Arteta wins manager of the month award

September turned out to be a much better month for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta than August. Starting the month with no points, no goals scored and nine conceded, the Gunners won three and drew one of their four Premier League games. In addition, they saw an energetic AFC Wimbledon in the third round of the Carabao Cup at the Emirates Stadium.

The good results saw Arteta, whose work had been questioned, collect the manager of the month award, becoming the second manager to win it this season after Tottenham manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

While not everything is rosy in the Emirates, it is certainly starting to move in the right direction in terms of results.

Henry questions the process

However, one man who has not yet bought is Thierry Henry. The Arsenal legend, who scored 228 goals in 376 games for Arsene Wenger’s then-team, has been less than convinced by the performances and results, with the Brighton match standing out in particular.

Speaking at the 2021 Prime Video Presents Sport exhibition event, and quoted by Sun, The former French star said:

“I don’t know if things are going in the right direction. I watched the Brighton game. You saw it?”

“I’ve seen us beat Norwich before, win at Burnley, beat Tottenham at home, because we always beat Tottenham at home.

“I was more than happy when we beat Tottenham because we had a good run but I was expecting to see a performance, away from home, against a team that passes the ball.

“And instead we suffer.”

Henry continued:

“I was looking forward to the Brighton game, to see if we could have the ball and keep it, away from home, retaining possession, against a dangerous Brighton team.

“When we used to lose, even after I left the team, it was always said that ‘Arsenal don’t have a Plan B’ and that they had too much to go through.

“But I didn’t see that from Arsenal in the Brighton game. I saw Brighton do that. “

Does the legend make sense, or will time show that Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal is one of those to be feared in the future?
