Manchester United fans will love what Raphael Varane did before the Nations League final

Manchester United fans will love what Raphael Varane did before the Nations League final

Raphael Varane joins Manchester United

In a move that was largely overshadowed by the moves of Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane also joined Manchester United last summer, for a fee of around 36 million pounds.

The world champion and multiple champion of the Champions League was in his last year in Madrid and was looking for a new challenge. Hence the move to join compatriot Paul Pogba at Old Trafford, a partnership that will be enjoyed at least during the 2021/22 season and perhaps beyond, depending on Pogba’s contractual decision.

And Varane has started to work, helping his new team to three wins and two draws in his first six league appearances, building a good partnership with captain Harry Maguire in the process.

Varane demonstrates his leadership qualities even without the bracelet

Before the Nations League final against Spain as well, Varane proved that you don’t need to wear the captain’s armband to be a leader of your team. In a passionate speech before kickoff, he can be seen motivating his teammates to make sure they leave everything on the court.

Varane said:

Come on guys, we have a damn chance to win a trophy with the national team.

Let’s not forget. 90 minute focus, we stay in the game. We play our game, nothing is going to divert us from our game. 90 min, all in. Let’s look. Together.

In Varane, it seems that Manchester United have one more leader in a dressing room that already contains Ronaldo and Maguire, something that can only be good for the general direction of the full-back, and something that could well be translated effectively on the field.
