Chelsea’s Mason Mount on the prospect of winning the Ballon d’Or

Chelsea's Mason Mount on the prospect of winning the Ballon d'Or

Chelsea stars stand out in Ballon d’Or nominations

The top 30 list for the 2020 Ballon d’Or has been revealed over the past week.

Unsurprisingly, Chelsea, who won the 2021 Champions League, figure heavily on the list.

The Blues have five players on the roster, including Romelu Lukaku, who also won Serie A with Inter Milan this year.

On the other hand, Cezar Azpilicueta, N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mason Mount made the list.

Said quartet played a key role in Chelsea’s success in the Champions League, with Mount providing the assist for Kai Havertz’s winning goal.

Mount and Jorginho also made it all the way to the Euro 2020 final, which Jorginho, of course, won with Italy.

And now, Mason Mount has spoken out about his Ballon d’Or nomination:

“It was special. I probably found out at exactly the same time as everyone else, so seeing that and being alongside those names is obviously a dream.

“I think for all the years that you work hard, you dedicate yourself and then you see something like that, it shows that it’s worth it and it’s just the beginning, it doesn’t stop now.”

Then when asked about his prospects for winning the Ballon d’Or, the 22-year-old stated:

“I doubt it, but you never know. The most important thing for me is that I keep trying to reach the levels that I reached before and go even further.”
