Ronaldo’s ‘siuu’ celebration is a ‘declaration’, says Paulo Sousa

Information on the celebration of Cristiano Ronaldo's 'Siuu'

Poland coach Paulo Sousa gave his take on the iconic celebration coined by Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo this weekend.

Ronaldo on target

CR7, of course, was back in action on Saturday night.

Ahead of their only competitive exit from the international break, at home to Luxembourg next Tuesday, Portugal wiped off the rust in a friendly match with Qatar, host of next year’s World Cup.

Fernando Santos’s men actually only faced the Asian squad just over a month ago, finally emerging on the right side from a 3-1 scoreline.

And last night it turned out more of the same for A Selecao, who went on to completely dominate the proceedings, on their way to a comfortable 3-0 victory.

José Fonte and Andre Silva were among the goals, but it was the aforementioned Ronaldo who, true to form, stole the show at the Algarve Stadium.

The 36-year-old opened the scoring on the night, taking advantage of a defensive howl to fit in from close range:

Meanwhile, on the back of his latest goal for Portugal, it was subsequently revealed that Ronaldo had secured another piece of history, by making Qatar his 46th victim on the international stage:

‘I’m here’

The Manchester United hitman subsequent celebration also caused some stir among rival fans, with Ronaldo, despite the friendly state of the showdown and the quality of the opposition, not being shy about popping his trademark yell of ‘Siuu’.

In turn, it seems appropriate to highlight recent comments from a fellow international nation manager, regarding CR7’s celebratory antics.

Speaking in an interview with The Sunday Times This weekend, Poland coach Paulo Sousa, a compatriot of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, was drawn to Ronaldo’s repeated celebration.

And Sousa went on to reveal his opinion that, in fact, the veteran attacker intends to make a ‘statement’ to everyone who looks every time he finds the network:

‘I loved your celebration [when Ronaldo ripped his top off after scoring a late winner against Villarreal in the Champions League this season].

“The way he commemorates his goals is a statement: ‘I’m here.’
