Unsurprisingly, the 28-year-old, fresh off a stellar start to the new campaign, was called up by Germany this week, for the nation’s latest round of international matches.

Rudiger started and participated for the 90 minutes on Friday night, when Die Mannschaft beat Romania in a World Cup qualifying clash.

In turn, it was undoubtedly seen as a blow to the fans not only in Germany, but also Chelsea, when word began to spread this afternoon that the former AS Roma player had not participated in the last training of the first .

The ‘back problems’ were cited as the reason for his absence, by the reliable SportBild.

And, on Sunday night, the head of Rudiger’s national team moved to confirm it.

Speaking to the media ahead of Germany’s meeting with North Macedonia tomorrow night, Hansi Flick was inevitably drawn to the well-being of his key defender.

And the head coach of Die Mannschaft went on to reveal that ‘Rudi’ is indeed dealing with a minor back problem.
