McTominay scores winner, Gilmour gets applause and Scotland scores big win

McTominay takes the winner in the last gasp, but a Chelsea talent takes the applause as Scotland takes a big step towards the World Cup

A gripping adventure in Hampden Park tonight saw Scotland overtake Israel, with a Chelsea-owned star who has since been selected to receive well-deserved accolades.

McTominay to death

Steve Clarke’s men were back in action recently.

In the nation’s first outing of the last international break, Scotland welcomed Israel to Glasgow for a World Cup qualifying match.

The Tartan Army went to the proceedings knowing that a victory would put them firmly in the driver’s seat to take second place in the Group F table, sitting just one point away from their opponents on the day.

And when all was said and done, securing a potentially crucial victory in their quest to seal a spot in the Qatar 2022 masterpiece is precisely what the Scots accomplished.

Chaotic 90 minutes, during which the hosts lagged behind twice during the first half, finally saw the clash decided courtesy of a last-gasp injury time winner.

After Lyndon Dykes reestablished parity ten minutes into the interval, the revealing moment of the night approached with 93 minutes on the clock, when Manchester United’s Scott McTominay took a corner to the back post.

Scotland, in turn, sit at 14 points, four behind Denmark, which leads the table, but, more importantly, four above Israel, which is in third place, as well.

‘World class’

Following the frenzied action coming to an end in Hampden, it should come as no surprise to learn that the name of the match winner, McTominay, has taken center stage in the post-match headlines.

However, as described above, she is indeed another one of Scotland’s stars who has since been singled out as the star of the show by fans of the nation.

The man in question? Billy Gilmour.

Chelsea’s talented Gilmour, currently on loan at Norwich City, took on Israel in a major way, particularly over the course of the second half, taking the game by the back of his head to push his team forward each and every opportunity. .

And the reaction from social media makes it clear, with just a few of the Twitter highlights shown below:
