Fabianski leaves the field in tears in Poland’s last appearance

Video: West Ham's Lukasz Fabianski leaves the pitch in tears in Poland's last appearance

Images that will undoubtedly bring tears to the eyes of many Polish fans have surfaced online on Saturday night.

San Marino beating

Paulo Sousa’s men were back in action recently.

After securing a potentially crucial point in a meeting with England during the last international break, Poland resumed their World Cup qualification campaign, in a meeting with the San Marino minnows.

The Eagles entered the process knowing that nothing more than a victory would suffice, in their efforts to keep up with Albania, which ranks second in the Group I table.

And when all was said and done, securing the three key points is precisely what Poland achieved.

A predictably dominant display finally culminated with the hosts emerging on the right side of a 5-0 scoreline in Warsaw.

Karol Swiderski, Tomasz Kedziora, Adam Buksa and Krzysztof Piatek managed to find the target, although strangely there was no room for the prolific Bayern Munich hit man Robert Lewandowski.

Poland, in turn, remains third in Group I, one point behind Albania, which is in second place.

Fabianski says goodbye

However, as described above, on an otherwise pleasant night for Poland, there was a totally heartbreaking moment during the second half of the action.

This came just before the hour mark, when Chief Sousa took Lukasz Fabianski away.

The move came as a tribute to Fabianski, knowing that tonight’s clash would mark his 57th and final appearance for his country.

And the shot plug couldn’t help but let his emotions show.

Amid standing ovation from both attendees and his Polish teammates, Fabianski left the court in tears, ending a wonderful international career in the process:
