An explanation for Gabriel Martinelli’s conspicuous absence from Arsenal’s first team training this weekend has been posted online.

Back to the song

After a frankly abysmal opening to the campaign, which saw them fall to defeat in each of the club’s first three Premier League matches, Mikel Arteta’s Gunners have, of course, turned things around in a major way in the end times.

Throughout the month of September, Arsenal achieved no less than four consecutive victories in all competitions.

Coupled with a 3-0 beating of AFC Wimbledon in the League Cup, the North Londoners edged out Norwich City, Burnley and Tottenham to climb to the top half of the English top flight.

The latter of these results proved particularly significant, as the Arsenal faithful were finally able to get a glimpse of just how devastating their team can look, when it fires at full throttle.

The most recent departure from the club saw Arteta and company. came back down to earth a bit, in a 0-0 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion, but the positive vibes are still taking full effect on the red half of North London as things stand.

Meanwhile, the next step for Arsenal is another derby, in the form of a Premier League meeting with Crystal Palace on Monday, October 18.

However, in preparation for the Emirates showdown, Mikel Arteta has been unable to oversee the training efforts of the 16 members of his squad.

This comes with the impressive form of the Gunners that has lately been rewarded with international summons by a host of nations around the world.

However, efforts to keep those still in the English capital in shape have continued, with a friendly closed-door meeting with QPR earlier this week that saw players like Alexandre Lacazette, Ben White and Gabriel Magalhaes play his role en route to a 3-2 victory.

The aforementioned Martinelli was also included in the Gunners’ starting eleven, amid a concerted effort to reestablish himself among the first team options in North London.

In turn, when it emerged today that Martinelli, a fan favorite at Arsenal, had been conspicuously absent from training on Saturday, concerns about a possible injury were raised.

However, the talented young attacker has since moved to ease those fears Saturday night.

On Instagram, Martinelli posted a photo of himself sunbathing by a pool, accompanied by the tag ‘Lisbon’, suggesting that he is simply enjoying a well-deserved vacation outside of North London:
