Cristiano Ronaldo sets another international benchmark with goal vs Qatar

Cristiano Ronaldo sets another international benchmark with goal vs Qatar

Portugal and Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo increasingly etched his name in the history books of international football on Saturday.

Qatar shot down

CR7 and co. they were back in action a short time ago.

Ahead of their only competitive exit from the international break, at home to Luxembourg next Tuesday, Portugal tonight cleaned the rust in a friendly match with Qatar, host of next year’s World Cup.

Fernando Santos’s men actually only faced the Asian squad just over a month ago, finally emerging on the right side from a 3-1 scoreline.

And tonight it turned out more of the same for A Selecao, who went on to completely dominate the proceedings, on their way to a comfortable 3-0 victory.

The aforementioned Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring at the Algarve Stadium, taking advantage of a good execution by Diogo Dalot, as well as a defensive howler, to fit in point-blank.

Then the hosts doubled their lead early in the second half, when José Fonte scored on the rebound, before Andre Silva added some sparkle to the scoreboard with a third at the end.

Another CR7 record

Meanwhile, as mentioned above, by finding his country’s network for the 112th time on Saturday, Cristiano Ronaldo secured one more piece of history.

As revealed via social media, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has now scored for Portugal against no less than 46 rival nations, the highest tally ever achieved by a single player on the international stage:
