Liverpool under Klopp

Under Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool have enjoyed their most successful stint in Premier League history.

The Reds, of course, would win their 6th Champions League with the German in 2019.

But the culminating glory of Klopp’s season at Liverpool was obviously his 2020 title win.

This would be Liverpool’s first league title in 30 years and their first Premier League title.

The player Klopp wishes he had managed at Liverpool

During this reign, Klopp, of course, has worked and shaped some of the best players in soccer today.

Mohamed Salah is undoubtedly one of the five best footballers in the world today, while Virgil van Dijk can claim to be one of the best center-backs in Europe today.

Now, however, Jurgen Klopp has revealed the former Liverpool player that he wishes he could have managed.

And it’s no wonder the German bestowed that honor on Steven Gerrard:

“That’s easy, it’s Stevie (Gerrard).

“When we played in Sydney three or four years ago and after the season we didn’t have a suitable team and we invited [Steve] McManaman, [Daniel] Agger, Jamie Carragher and Stevie.

“To be honest I knew Liverpool and watched them play, of course, but a bit advanced age group, but they were all really good.

“But Stevie, what a player he was still then! I think he was already retired, but maybe a youth coach here. Amazing. Stevie and I together in the roles, him as the man on the field and me as the coach, that would have been nice. So it’s Stevie.

“Six years ago it would have been a different answer, but now I’m here and I know him as a person and as a player, so now it’s an easy answer.”
