Tammy Abraham reveals why she chose to join Roma over Arsenal

Tammy Abraham reveals why she chose to join Roma over Arsenal

Abraham trades London for Rome

Tammy Abraham left Chelsea this summer in a move reportedly which has cost Rome £ 36 million, and has come to life in Italy incredibly well.

The 24-year-old Englishman has contributed five goals (2 goals and three assists) in seven Serie A appearances for José Mourinho, while also scoring twice the net in two UEFA conference league games, showing already in more shape than he could keep at Chelsea.

Surprisingly, he has also scored the goal frame SIX times already for the Serie A team, suggesting that his goal record could be further improved in Rome.

His fine form has seen him win a late call to England’s squad for Gareth Southgate, having initially been left off the squad list, and he will hope to add to his six games with the Three Lions in this international hiatus.

Former Chelsea player reveals why he chose to go to Serie a

At one point, it seemed that Tammy Abraham may have been on their way to the Emirates to join Arsenal, instead of the Italian capital team.

However, a movement was brewing, and since then Abraham has lifted the lid on what made him decide not to wait for the opportunity and join Rome. Clearly, coach José Mourinho was a huge draw for the youngster, with the Cobham graduate saying:

“I picked up the phone and he said, ‘Do you want to enjoy the sun or stay in the rain?’ I laughed,”

“At first I didn’t think much of it when we talked. My way of thinking was that I wanted to be in the Premier League. It felt like home, to be in London, to be in England.

“But when he speaks, you listen. He is a good man and he has helped me a lot so far and I hope we can take advantage of it.

“I had different options. But I spoke with José and he had a goal, I could see where he wanted Roma to go and I wanted to be part of the process.

Ultimately, however, it came down to confidence and playing time:

“He really trusted me, which was one of the main reasons I chose Rome.”

Although Chelsea supposedly has a buyback clause In the deal, will they come to regret letting Tammy Abraham leave London?
