Timo Werner on Chelsea's future: 'Look at the big picture'

Chelsea star Timo Werner on Thursday provided insight into his future with the club.

Blues season

German hit man Werner, of course, moved to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2020, following another brilliant campaign in his home country, with RB Leipzig.

In all, however, the 25-year-old’s Premier League experience has proven to be spot on.

Werner, to his credit, is now European champion, after playing a central role in Chelsea’s march to Champions League glory in May.

And while his work pace, attitude and even surprisingly creative feats have proven to be of the highest level while he was Blue, the attacker has received well-deserved criticism for his regular wastefulness in front of goal.

Werner, in 52 appearances in all competitions in 2020/21, managed to find the net on 12 insignificant occasions.

Meanwhile, these problems have largely continued into the new campaign, with the German having scored just a couple of goals in eight outings so far.

‘I’m not saying I really want to leave’

As such, it goes without saying that those in a position of power at Stamford Bridge were likely to have been disappointed by the return of a hefty € 53 million. investment.

However, rumors in the media late last month suggested that Chelsea were far from the only one frustrated with Werner’s situation in the English capital.

Amid a worrying drop in playing time of late, it was reported that the hitman himself could soon ‘reevaluate’ his Blues future, ahead of a possible departure:

In turn, speaking while on international duty this week, it came as no surprise when Werner was drawn to his future and his current mindset at Stamford Bridge.

And while he admitted that lately his situation has been “difficult” to handle, the 25-year-old was also willing to assure that, as things stand, he is not thinking about a departure in January.

“The last few weeks have been difficult at Chelsea. After many years, I suddenly fell a little behind and had to fight my way again. ” Werner said

“A race always goes up and down, never steadily. But you learn to deal with it. ‘

‘I have to bite it again, that challenges me. Of course, I would like to enjoy more minutes, so I do my best in training. ‘

‘Of course, I can’t be satisfied if I don’t play. Of course, I want to be a regular on a great team. But I’m not saying that if I don’t start 10 or 15 games before Christmas, I really want to go. ‘

“Things happen relatively quickly in football. I have to look at the big picture to make a decision. ”
