A man was praised when Spain beat Italy to reach the UEFA Nations League final

Spain ends Italy’s unbeaten streak

Italy’s long and impressive unbeaten streak finally fell apart when they were beaten 2-1 by a young and energetic Spain at San Siro.

In a first half dominated by visitors, Ferran Torres pounced a delicious cross from Real Sociedad’s Mikel Oyarzabal, before Leonardo Bonucci was sent to an early bathroom for a second yellow card, allegedly nudging Sergio Busquets as he jumped to a head butt.

In the dying embers of the first half, Spain increased their lead, with Oyarzabal once again finding Ferran Torres for the City man to sweep home, effectively putting the tie to bed.

Italy pushed back one at the end of the piece, with Lorenzo Pellegrini converting a counterattack led by Federico Chiesa. However, it turned out too little and too late, and it was Luis Enrique’s team, not the European champions, that booked their place in the Nations League final.

Gavi dominates the discussion

A man (or rather, a teenager) was on everyone’s lips on social media, in the form of the Barcelona star Gavi. The 17-year-old was pushed into the Spanish starting lineup, making history in the process and left many impressed with his display.

Charged with competing with an Italian midfield made up of Jorginho, Nico Barella and Marco Verratti, Gavi did not seem out of place at all and kept the trio incredibly calm.
