Why FOUR Tottenham players are a doubt for Newcastle’s next tie

Nuno saves his job

After a poor performance at the Emirates Stadium that saw Spurs fall with a 3-1 loss, Nuno Espirito Santo faced big questions about his future.

The victories over Slovenian minnows NS Mura and Aston Villa in the seven days since have helped stabilize the boat, and it looks like it will come to the end of the season if possible, given the clause inserted in its contract.

With another international break now here, however, there are more problems ahead.

Spurs locked in talks once again

Once again, it seems that Tottenham is proving to be a huge loser of the red list rules.

A quartet of players has been called up for South American teams, with Giovanni Lo Celso and Cristian Romero set to represent Argentina, Davinson Sánchez called up by Colombia and Emerson Royal handed over a call-up from Brazil.

Of course, the Argentine duo and Sánchez were forced to fly home from the last international break through a training ground in Croatia to maintain their fitness, which saw them miss the 3-0 loss to Crystal Palace.

This time, however, the red list rules mean that they can train and play games during a ten-day “quarantine” at the training ground, but there is another problem.

Take Emerson, for example. Brazil’s final game will take place at 1.30am UK time on Friday, making the return trip difficult for Tottenham’s clash with Newcastle on Sunday.

As a result, Tottenham is reported to be in talks once again with Brazil and the other two federations, to release their players from international service early so they can return in time for Nuno Espirito Santo to name them in his starting XI against Newcastle.

For the Spurs faithful, this will represent another problem their new boss has had to deal with, and they will hope it can be solved in a better way than the chaos that followed after the last international break.
