Arsenal loan recap: Bellerin’s costly blunder and Guendouzi’s honor in Marseille

Arsenal loan recap: Bellerin's costly blunder and Guendouzi's honor in Marseille

Two of Mikel Arteta’s team members who are on loan out of Arsenal have attracted attention on Sunday, for totally contrasting reasons.

A new leader

First comes Matteo Guendouzi.

Of course, the 22-year-old Guendouzi is currently in the middle of his second consecutive stint outside North London, after spending last season in Germany with Hertha Berlin.

This time, the Frenchman assured a return to his home country, to align himself with Marseille (who are understood to show off the obligation to buy as part of his deal with Arsenal).

And, if the latest gesture from his new boss is something to go through, then evidently Guendouzi is impressing those in a position of power at the Stade Velodrome.

OM was back in action today, in a Ligue 1 match with champion LOSC Lille.

And unfortunately for the visitors, when all was said and done at Stade Pierre-Mauroy, Jorge Sampaoli’s team, including another loan from the Gunners at William Saliba, was killed by two goals to nil.

However, despite the end result, it turned out to be a special evening for the aforementioned Guendouzi.

This comes with the 22-year-old, despite his tender years and status on loan to the club, having received the captain’s armband for the first time:

Bellerin’s costly mistake

However, as described above, while one Arsenal star made headlines for all the right reasons, another was responsible for the opposite.

Another of the Emirates loan brigade was in action recently, in the form of Hector Bellerin.

After a somewhat unpredictable start in his home country, winger Bellerin had his last start on the right of the Real Betis backline against Villarreal.

The visiting team ultimately fell to a disappointing 2-0 defeat in eastern Spain, due to a brace from former Bournemouth standout Arnaut Danjuma.

And Bellerin’s role in the first goal scored by the Villarreal wing player is sure to leave Arsenal fans wince at the thought of similar mistakes over the 26-year-old’s time in North America. London.

After intercepting a wayward pass deep into his own half, Bellerin’s unfortunate first touch opened the door for Danjuma to slide in, culminating directly in the first game of the night at El Madrigal:
