Raúl Jiménez consolidates his place in Wolves tradition in a key outing against Newcastle

The Wolves won their third game in their last four Premier League outings under new manager Bruno Lage today, beating Steve Bruce’s Newcastle 2-1 at Molineux.

A double from RB Leipzig’s Hee-chan Hwang summer loan sealed all three points for the Portuguese manager, and the result saw the Wolves climb to the top half of the table subject to results from Arsenal, Tottenham and Leicester City.

But the day belonged to 30-year-old Mexican international Raúl Jiménez, who has come back strong in the current Premier League season after sustaining a devastating injury last season when he fractured his skull against Arsenal. Jimenez missed 227 days with the Wolves, but he has appeared in every minute of action this season.

His pair of assists today against home support cemented his name in the Wolves history books when he became the club’s first player to directly participate in all 50 Premier League goals.

Although his former partner in crime Diogo Jota is no longer practicing in the West Midlands, Jiménez remains an incredibly influential figure on the team despite being under new leadership.

An injury nightmare to forget

“Unfortunately, my first thought was that he had died. I didn’t see him react on the screen, normally when players fall and get hurt, you see a reaction, that’s when you know if they are faking or not.

But I didn’t see anything, I couldn’t see anything, I couldn’t see his eyes, it was one of the most horrible feelings in life ”. – Daniela Basso; partner of Raúl Jiménez in quotes courtesy of Mark.

For a moment, there are many who thought the worst when Raúl Jiménez faced David Luiz in the 15th minute at the Emirates last season.

Doctors told Jiménez, who suffered a skull fracture that resulted in a brain hemorrhage, that he was lucky to be alive, much less to be playing the game he loves again.

“From the beginning, they supported me a lot. The skull fracture took a little longer than we all expected to heal and it really is a miracle for me to be here with you.

I never thought about finishing my career or stopping playing. There was a possibility of that, but I was always confident that he was going to come back. ” – Raúl Jiménez; quotes courtesy of SkySports.
