Mikel Arteta explains why Arsenal bought Ben White

Mikel Arteta explains why Arsenal bought Ben White

Brighton vs Arsenal

Brighton and Arsenal will meet at the Amex in the final Premier League game on Saturday.

Both teams are heading into the clash in good shape, although it is the Gaviotas who have had a better start to the season.

Brighton won four, tied one and lost one in six PL starts before Saturday, securing 13 points and 6th place in the highest English category.

Arsenal, on the other hand, would have a nightmare start to 2021/22, but have since picked up three wins on the rebound.

On paper, however, Brighton, due to its form, actually appears poised to demonstrate Arsenal’s toughest test since returning to the winning track.

Why Arsenal bought Ben White

Before Saturday night’s game, Mikel Arteta has been talking about Ben White.

Arsenal had a productive summer transfer window and signed six senior first-team players.

White was the most expensive of these, setting the Gunners back a reported 50 million pounds.

And now Arteta has moved to explain why Arsenal signed Ben White, first stating that they bought him because they think he can be extraordinary:

“We bought him because we think he can be extraordinary and he doesn’t have much experience in the league yet.

Later in the same interview, Arteta added that White was bought for his ability to break lines and move the ball forward:

“He [White] He knows that they will ask him questions and in this league for sure because it is one of the most demanding positions to play and at the moment he is doing it.

“He has to defend first and everything we have we ask him to do defensively to do so, and that is his biggest task.

“After that we bought him because he has that ability to break lines, to move the ball the way we want to. You have that composure and peace of mind to make the right decision. But first of all he needs to defend and I think he is doing very, very well ”.
