Liverpool clean house in the summer

Liverpool’s summer was largely focused on reducing deadwood on their team. Xherdan Shaqiri left the club to join Lyon, while Marco Grujic and Harry Wilson also left.

With the expiration of Georginio Wijnaldum’s contract, and the midfielder who subsequently joined PSG on a free transfer, it seemed Liverpool were left light in some areas.

However, they are apparently bracing for further additions in 2022, when they are most likely to be financially stronger.

Klopp explains why Curtis Jones was not allowed to go on loan this summer

One player who survived the exodus in the summer was young Curtis Jones, who was used heavily from the bench last season. Still in his early 20s, Jones is full of potential, but he’s not getting the regular playing time he deserves.

After a good performance against Porto, which included two assists, his coach was full of praise to the young man, saying:

“It was the complete package against Porto, offensively and defensively. Yes, he is in a good moment. ”

Klopp, however, was quick to explain to Sky Sports why he decided not to let the young talent go on loan, revealing:

“I didn’t want to let him go play maybe 30 games in League One. I wanted him here to learn our football. And that’s what he did.

“You can learn that job without the ball when you stay here because we insist on it a lot. For a No. 10 who, despite all his youth, was always involved in the ball, putting that in his DNA is not easy. It takes time.

“It’s our job to give him all the information we can about the game – offensive, defensive – but when you’re close to the first team at 17, you have more time to absorb it. I am very happy that we are seeing the results on the field ”.
