Folarin Balogun thanks fans with two goal display against Brighton

While Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette failed to dent Graham Potter’s Brighton tonight, the Arsenal U23 star Folarin Balogun He enjoyed another first-class display for Kevin Betsy’s team last night against the Seagulls under-23 team.

The New York-born England Under-21 international put on another show for the few Emirates attendees last night, but thanked those who continued to show their support. However, it remains to be seen whether the show of appreciation was genuine or an injection of sarcasm given the minuscule turnout at the home game.

Betsy’s under-23s were left without winners 3-0, with Balogun’s two-goal effort interspersed with a goal from midfielder Salah Oulad M’Hand, who scored for the second straight game as the former Feyenoord youth who enjoys the life in North London after arriving last summer.

Day XI of the match also featured outstanding midfielder couple Charlie Patino and Omari Hutchinson, as well as Danish youth international Mika Biereth.

A future that remains uncertain

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has recently come under fire for his handling of the Folarin Balogun academy product, and other forwards, none other than the brother of the player who went on the offensive against the Spaniard questioning tactical schemes in the Emirates.

In the two appearances Balogun made before his first-team stint this season hit the wall, the England youth international could barely smell the goal and was largely isolated at the top.

This is in stark contrast to the way Balogun operates for the Under-23s, and his 6 goals in just four Premier League 2 appearances, where Arsenal are in second place just one point behind Manchester City, is still a positive proof that the club has a brilliant youth. Talent on your hands that may not yet have a definite path to the long-term first team.
