Thomas Tuchel confirms Chelsea ‘did everything’ to keep Tino Livramento

Future return? Tuchel confirms Chelsea 'did everything' to retain Tino Livramento

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel opened on Friday to the summer departure of the club’s talented young stopper Valentino Livramento.

Who is Tino Deliverance?

The Englishman Livramento long stood as one of the most respected talents in the Stamford Bridge books.

The teenager is a versatile performer who generally lines up in a right-back role. However, he is also more than capable of performing in a more traditional winger role or even on the wing.

This comes with Livramento’s most impressive traits often shown in the final third.

He has earned widespread accolades for a stellar combination of pace, one-on-one skill, finishing ball, and, perhaps most of all, outstanding fitness levels.

The star, in turn, managed to prove himself as the Featured player for Chelsea’s under-23 team last season.

Bombarding up and down the right flank with equal vigor and quality, Livramento racked up two impressive goals and six assists in 20 Premier League 2 appearances.

In six other outings between the EFL Trophy and the FA Youth Cup, meanwhile, he contributed directly to another five goals.

Livramento’s stellar exploits, in turn, saw him recognized by both Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel and fellow youth-level talents in May.

After being called up for senior roles for the first time prior to the Blues’ Premier League meeting with Manchester City, the talented teenager was subsequently named the Academy Player of the Year in West London:

Southampton Switch

So it was certainly a completely disappointing development for the Chelsea faithful when it emerged in early August that Livramento was about to move on.

With Reece James and Cesar Azpilicueta blocking his way into first-team action at Stamford Bridge, the explosive right-back made the decision to put his talents to the test elsewhere.

Premier League rivals Southampton, in turn, swooped in, and Livramento’s move to St. Mary’s was subsequently confirmed on August 2:

Since then, the 18-year-old has enjoyed a stellar start to life in Hampshire, quickly usurping Kyle Walker-Peters as Southampton’s first choice to establish himself as a key member of Ralph Hasenhuttl’s bottom line.

In fact, up to this point, Livramento has appeared in all but four minutes of his new team’s Premier League campaign.

‘I saw the potential …’

However, if his former boss had his way, then the talented young defender would have apparently never left his childhood club in the first place.

Speaking at a press conference this afternoon before Chelsea’s meeting with Southampton on Saturday, a clash in which Livramento himself is likely to appear, Thomas Tuchel was drawn to the star’s departure from Stamford Bridge over the summer.

And Tuchel went on to confirm that he was indeed hoping Livramento would stick around, amid “ a great opportunity for him to make it all the way ”:

“We did everything we could to keep him here and show him his future, to compete for a position on our team. Decided to leave, no hard feelings. Of course, he was competing with Reece and Azpi for the winger position. There was a great chance for him to go all the way. It’s fair enough, we wish him all the best. We saw the potential. ‘

However, could the English youth international end up back at Stamford Bridge?

Chelsea is known for bragging about a buyback option about his prominent former academy, with Tuchel’s praise hinting that those in a position of power remain firm believers in Livramento’s abilities.
