Havertz draws comparisons to Ozil after Chelsea’s latest disappointing display

Kai Havertz draws comparisons to Mesut Ozil after Chelsea's latest disappointing display

In the post-match analysis of Chelsea’s disappointing loss to Juventus on Wednesday night, Kai Havertz received particularly harsh criticism.

Chiesa makes the difference

Of course, Thomas Tuchel’s men were back in action 24 hours ago.

After sliding into a first defeat of the domestic campaign at the hands of Manchester City, the Blues made the trip to Turin to face Juventus, hoping to avoid a similar fate on the continent.

Yet when all was said and done at Allianz Stadium, a second straight loss in all competitions is precisely what lies ahead.

A lone goal proved all that was required to guide Juve to an early lead on the Group H table, as the always dangerous Federico Chiesa took the pass from his namesake Federico Bernardeschi to split the defense in his stride to score a home beyond Edouard Mendy:

‘Lazy and industrious’

In turn, after not only his second loss in a row, but also his shutout in front of goal, it was subsequently a little surprise to see several Chelsea stars come under fire on Wednesday night.

Players like Romelu Lukaku and Hakim Ziyech disappointed throughout the 90 minutes, struggling to make some kind of hard hitting against a solid Juventus bottom line.

Perhaps the subject of more widespread condemnation than any other blues star, however, was Kai Havertz.

A less than impressive opening to the campaign for Chelsea’s deep-pocketed attacker continued in Turin, as Havertz again failed to convince Thomas Tuchel of his caliber as an undisputed starter.

However, it was the German international’s gestures, rather than his efforts on the ball, that actually came to the fore during the post-match analysis session at BT Sport.

When relying on the latest demo put forward by Havertz, former Tottenham striker Peter Crouch was quick to draw comparisons between the 22-year-old and Mesut Ozil, of course also the cause of countless headaches on his own stretch in the English capital. :

‘I thought Ziyech and Havertz were very disappointing. I think Havertz reminds me of Ozil.

“ He does things where it is easy for him and he looks technically brilliant. ” Crouch continued.

But it can also seem lazy and laborious at times and it can frustrate you and tonight I thought they were frustrating. ‘
