Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka will be absent for how long

Arsenal's Granit Xhaka will be absent for how long

Arsenal win but Xhaka is injured

Arsenal emerged triumphant from the North London derby thanks to a first-half blitz that saw them take a 3-0 lead at halftime, ultimately winning 3-1.

Emile Smith Rowe, roared by a jubilant local crowd, opened the scoring and was late to convert a Bukayo Saka cross. Then it was Smith Rowe’s turn to supply his teammates, finding Aubameyang who made it 2-0 after just 25 minutes.

It got even better, as Bukayo Saka put his name on the roster before halftime, which saw some Spurs fans refuse to take their seats for the second half.

However, the pleasant day was spoiled and somewhat clouded by an injury to Granit Xhaka in preparation for Tottenham’s goal, with Lucas Moura accidentally catching the Swiss midfielder in the knee entirely, causing him to be unable to continue.

Initial expert diagnosis suggested that his full-time presence on the field was a good sign for the Swiss captain, who had just returned from suspension.

Xhaka diagnosis

Today, however, the diagnosis took a turn for the worse.

First, an image was circulated showing Xhaka in full protective gear.

Then, according to London football correspondent Chris Wheatley, a diagnosis emerged.

According to Andreas Boeni, Granit Xhaka suffered a “tear of the internal ligament of the right knee”, which will rule out six to eight weeks.

This means that Arsenal will be without their Swiss star until mid-November at the earliest, leaving Thomas Partey as the senior midfielder in Mikel Arteta’s ranks.
