Thomas Tuchel delivers brutal verdict against Chelsea after Manchester City defeat

Thomas Tuchel delivers brutal verdict against Chelsea after Manchester City defeat

Manchester City’s best Chelsea

Chelsea and Manchester City went head-to-head at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.

The Londoners would enter the game sitting at the top of the Premier League table and aiming to continue their undefeated start to the season in all competitions.

Man City, on the other hand, had already stuttered to a loss to Tottenham and a 0-0 draw with Southampton, suggesting that Pep Guardiola and co. he seemed willing to suffer without a suitable number 9 in his ranks.

However, despite these problems, it was actually City that took the win on Saturday.

The Sky Blues dominated for long periods, and Thomas Tuchel’s decision to start a three-man midfield left Chelsea without any creativity and bond with their forwards.

In turn, when all was said and done, Gabriel Jesús provided the winning goal:

Chelsea slides across the table

This would be Chelsea’s first loss of the season in all competitions and it will be interesting to see how the Blues react to this.

The defeat meant Chelsea have now slipped to 3rd in the Premier League, tied on points with City and Manchester United.

Liverpool currently occupy the top spot with 14 points, but that could change later on Monday if Brighton beat Leicester, which of course would also see Chelsea drop to 4.th.

Tuchel’s conviction in Chelsea

Now, Thomas Tuchel has offered a rather brutal assessment of Chelsea’s performance against Manchester City.

They only lost 1-0 and came to life a little later in the game.

But despite this, Tuchel has stated that Chelsea’s decision making, passing and dribbling were not good enough to win:

“Of course, we are not happy with how we play and the decisions we make. You have to be at the best level in all parts of the game and we clearly weren’t.

“We are in this together, so we need the best level of the coach and the best level of the players and we will analyze it now with all the self-reflection that is needed. Our decision making, our passing, our dribbling weren’t good enough to win.
