Olivier Giroud opens up about decision to leave Chelsea

'It was an obvious choice to leave': Olivier Giroud opens up about decision to leave Chelsea

Olivier Giroud’s season at Chelsea

Olivier Giroud would join Chelsea from London Arsenal in January 2018.

It is understood that the blues have paid £ 15 million for the striker, which turned out to be a pretty decent deal.

Even though he was never really used as Chelsea’s main No. 9 on a consistent basis, Giroud still made 119 appearances in all competitions for Londoners.

In these qualifying rounds, the Frenchman would score 39 goals and provide 14 assists. Giroud also played a key role at Chelsea winning the FA Cup, Europa League and most recently the Champions League.

After the 2020/21 campaign, Giroud would then extend his contract at Chelsea in June, so he didn’t go for free:

Although he only extended his contract with Chelsea in early June, Giroud signed for AC Milan in July 2021.

And now, the 34-year-old has opened up about his decision to leave Chelsea, stating that it was an obvious choice:

“I liked the Premier League, but at some point I had to make a decision.

“I said [Thomas] Tuchel that the last three months had been too difficult.

“It was an obvious choice to leave Chelsea, I went ahead with great emotion for all the moments that we live. Some were good, some were not so good, but we won three important titles ”.

Since then, Giroud has become a fairly regular feature in Milan, although he missed three matches due to injury.

Despite this, the veteran forward has scored two in three Serie A games this season.
