‘We must get back on our feet’

Cristiano Ronaldo uses social media to react to Man United's Aston Villa defeat

Cristiano Ronaldo has taken to Instagram tonight, to give his reaction to the damaging defeat of Manchester United at the hands of Aston Villa.

Hause downs United

Ronaldo and company returned to Premier League action this afternoon.

After being kicked out of the EFL Cup by West Ham during the week, the Red Devils welcomed Villa at Old Trafford, aiming to avoid a third loss in four.

Yet when all was said and done, this is precisely what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men slipped into.

Another worrying display finally saw the visitors hold United at bay, before decisively hitting at the end to secure all three points.

Kortney Hause proved himself the winner of the match, breaking free at the front post with 88 minutes left to lead Douglas Luiz’s corner kick home with a powerful header:

‘Only the beginning…’

However, the drama at Old Trafford did not end with the eventual winner of Hause.

Surprisingly, host United had a golden opportunity to level things out in injury time, when a foul on Bruno Fernandes in Villa’s box led to a penalty.

Despite Cristiano Ronaldo still on the pitch, Fernandes himself stood up to take responsibility, only to direct his effort from 12 meters well away from Emi Martínez’s crossbar:

The post-game talk, in turn, was inevitably dominated by questions about why exactly Ronaldo wasn’t the man to defend himself from the Red Devils’ last chance.

And, as described above, tonight the Portuguese icon himself has taken to social media to provide his reaction to the late drama in Manchester.

In a post on Instagram, CR7 refused to blame his compatriot Fernandes, opting instead to focus on the next few weeks:

This is just the beginning, but in competition as strong as the Premier League, every point counts! We must react immediately, get back on our feet and show our true strength.
