Manchester City and Pep Guardiola make history after victory over Chelsea

Chelsea vs Man City

Manchester City and Chelsea were in action in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

The two sides are title rivals this season, so while it’s only early in the campaign, Saturday’s clash is likely to have something to do with the 2021/22 Premier League title race. .

The first 45 at Stamford Bridge passed without incident. Man City dominated, but failed to register a single effort on goal.

However, it took the Sky Blues less than 10 minutes to do it in 45 seconds.

Gabriel Jesus directed a shot through a packed penalty area, which Edouard Mendy did not see until late, and would leave the African unable to do anything but watch the effort slide into the back of his net:

Chelsea started the game very defensively with three central midfielders and just two forwards in Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku.

But after the goal, Tuchel finally opted to bring in Kai Havertz in an attempt to add some much-needed creativity.

This change opened the game quite a bit, with both teams with several good opportunities and Chelsea also with a goal, with good reason, ruled out for offside.

Man City makes history

In the end, however, Man City were able to come out with a huge 1-0 win, tying them on points at the top of the PL with Chelsea and Liverpool.

Following the tie, it was revealed that, for the first time in the Premier League era, Manchester City have won back-to-back matches at Stamford Bridge.

It was also revealed that Pep Guardiola is now the only manager to have beaten the last four Chelsea bosses:

And, after winning on Saturday, Guardiola has set a club record for the most wins as Man City manager:
