A fresh take on Xavi Hernández’s stance will be offered on Saturday when it comes to potentially replacing Ronald Koeman on Barcelona’s bench.
The subject of the future of the Dutch Koeman at the Camp Nou, of course, has been under the microscope in an important way in recent times.
This is because Barça have endured a disappointing opening to the new campaign, en route to just two wins in the club’s first five outings.
The Blaugrana’s last lost points were revealed on Thursday night, when the latest in a series of increasingly disappointing performances saw them forced to settle for a share of the spoils in Cádiz.
In defending Ronald Koeman, the former Everton boss has already been forced to deal with a host of personnel issues so far in 2021/22, while recovering from the loss of Lionel Messi has always been a considerable challenge.
However, this does not take away from the fact that the Dutchman, in total, looked completely and completely out of reach.
A puzzling decision after a puzzling decision has seen the Blaugrana faithful make clear their desire for change on the club’s bench, with Koeman’s tactical ineptitude fully manifested when the 58-year-old chose to use the key defender Gerard Piqué as a center forward during a recent meeting with Granada.
In turn, the news that begins to circulate in the media that the Camp Nou board is in the process of probing possible replacements for its coach under fire should not surprise us.
And, as described above, on Saturday, an idea of the possible addition of what would undoubtedly prove to be a fan favorite will be posted online.
The strategist in question? Club legend Xavi Hernandez.
The information is courtesy of Mundo Deportivo’s trusted Edu Polo, known for having close ties to Xavi, the current head of the Qatari team Al Sadd.
According to Polo, contrary to what has been reported elsewhere this weekend, the former Blaugrana midfielder has not yet released his position on the possibility of a return to the Camp Nou known to the club.
However, those who hold power in Catalonia know very well that, if they contacted him, Xavi would immediately make himself available for the position.
In fact, it is even hinted that the 41-year-old coach is ‘waiting for the call’ from the Barça president, Joan Laporta.
Xavi has not said yes or no to Barça, basically because no one has contacted him. But the club knows from third parties that it would accept to take the team now. He is still in Qatar awaiting the call from Laporta. Out of respect for Koeman, he will not comment on the issue.
