Solskjaer aims to criticize Jurgen Klopp for Manchester United problems

Solskjaer aims to criticize Jurgen Klopp for Manchester United problems

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer led a less than subtle offense at Jurgen Klopp on Friday afternoon, following his team’s penalty problems against West Ham United.

CR7 at the heart of the penalty shootout drama

Solskjaer and company. Of course, he made the trip to the London stadium last weekend, for a Premier League showdown with the Irons.

And when all was said and done, the Red Devils emerged victorious from a hectic 90 minutes, courtesy of goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Jesse Lingard, as well as a last gasp save by David de Gea.

However, after the clash, it was penalties not awarded by referee Martin Atkinson that made the headlines.

This is because both sides have also been denied the opportunity to score from 12 yards over the course of the second half.

First came Tomas Soucek, who looked ready to give West Ham a chance to regain the lead, after being brought down by Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the Manchester United area.

However, much to the bewilderment of all viewers, Martin Atkinson finally made the decision that it was Soucek who had fouled AWB.

Then came a couple of close calls involving the visitors.

Both saw star Cristiano Ronaldo finish in the West Ham box, first after coming into contact with Vladimir Coufal, and shortly after with Kurt Zouma.

Onlookers, again, were left watching and pondering exactly how at least one of the incidents led to a kick on point, with CR7 himself understandably perplexed.

‘A big difference’

And, as described above, it was this pair of incidents involving the star man of his team that came to light during the last press conference held by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this afternoon.

Speaking to the media ahead of his team’s meeting with Aston Villa on Saturday, the Manchester United manager was drawn to the recent penalty shootout drama stemming from the Reds’ games.

And, after suggesting that United should have taken no fewer than three shots from the spot in their last two outings, Solskjaer took the opportunity to target Jurgen Klopp with a less than subtle attack.

After the Liverpool manager last season revealed his view that Manchester heavyweights were the beneficiaries of a disproportionate number of opportunities from 12 yards, Solskjaer today was not shy in hinting that his Liverpool counterpart is, at the less in part, the culprit of the reduced position. kick frequency seen in Red Devils games lately:

“There was a certain manager last year who was starting to worry about us getting pens and after that it seems like the decisions are harder to make.”

“Surely, I’ve seen a big, big difference since then.”
