Spurs’ Bryan Gil wins club legend comparison after exhibition against Wolves

Tottenham's Bryan Gil wins club legend comparison after display against Wolves

Former Tottenham star Graham Roberts seemed impressed by the latest display put on by Lilywhites’ summer arrival, Bryan Gil, on Wednesday night.

The spurs march

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men, of course, were back in action just under 24 hours ago.

The North Londoners made the trip to Molineux for an EFL Cup third-round clash, a return to the old grounds for the last installment on the club’s bench.

The Spurs entered the proceedings in search of a much-needed recovery result, having followed a trio of victories to open the season with successive 3-0 losses at the hands of Crystal Palace and Chelsea.

And when all was said and done in the West Midlands, getting back on track is precisely what the visitors achieved … just right.

Tanguy Ndombele opened the scoring in a quarter of an hour on Wednesday, before Harry Kane set up what appeared to be a delightful evening with a second Tottenham ten minutes later.

The wolves, however, had other ideas.

After Leander Dendoncker cut a goal for the hosts shortly before half-time, Daniel Podence stepped up early in the second half to send proceedings to the penalty shoot-out.

But Tottenham, to their credit, rallied from here, finally marching courtesy of a 3-2 points win.

‘A little superstar’

Yet despite their eventual breakthrough, the same old concerns spread widely in the back of the Spurs’ latest display on Wednesday.

Many of Lilywhites supporters have already voiced reservations about the style of football new boss Nuno is employing, who appears to be star man Harry Kane hungry for the kind of service required to carry out his remarkable scoring feats for the club.

However, one of the stars of the capital’s team proved to be a bright light in Molineux.

The player in question? Bryan Gil.

Spanish international Gil, of course, moved to North London over the summer as he moved in and out of Nuno’s starting lineup in the league and cup.

But, early on last night, the 20-year-old showed what it’s all about, lighting up the Midlands courtesy of an impressive combination of touch, rhythm, cunning and forward thrust.

In turn, a comparison with one of the most talented stars in Tottenham history came when the full-time whistle was blown, and former Lilywhites stopper Graham Roberts took to social media to point out the similarities between him. Gil’s game and the Argentine. Ossie Ardiles:
