Hit for Aston Villa as Dean Smith provides update on Leon Bailey’s injury

FPL Ramifications: Leon Bailey's Injury Schedule Revealed

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith has provided an update on Leon Bailey’s fitness, after the winger was forced out of the club’s win over Everton.

Cash kicks in

The Villans, of course, returned to Premier League action last weekend.

Following a totally unpredictable start in 2021/22, which had seen them rack up just four points out of twelve available, Villa welcomed top-flight Everton at Villa Park, with an eye toward getting back into form.

And when all was said and done, getting things back on track is precisely what Claret and Blue accomplished.

An explosive 15-minute period in the second half culminated with the hosts finding the net a trio of times, to emerge down the right side from an impressive 3-0 result.

Matty Cash was the first to score, before substitute Leon Bailey added an own goal by Lucas Digne shortly thereafter to complete the score with fifteen minutes remaining:

However, a stellar night’s work for Dean Smith’s men was soured by a worrisome blow to the front of the staff.

Leon Bailey, on the back of a 20-minute cameo in which the man bag opened both a goal and an assist, was forced to limp away from the proceedings.

Speaking in a post-match interview, Bailey was subsequently drawn to his condition and went on to reveal his hope that the injury was “ nothing too serious ”:

I think it was from the shot, I think I hit him too hard! I started to feel a little stiff in my quads, I don’t think it’s anything too serious. ‘

In a blow to both the player (who has had a less-than-ideal start to life in England) and the club, however, on Thursday night, Dean Smith confirmed that Bailey’s injury is more serious than previously known. I thought initially.

Speaking ahead of his team’s meeting with Manchester United this weekend, the Villans manager admitted that the Jamaican is likely to remain on the sidelines until the next international break:

‘León has a tension that will probably keep him out until after the international break. We hope that it will be available for the Wolves game, but we will have to evaluate it closer to the moment and see how it progresses in the next ten days or so. ”
