Barça’s problems increase with de Jong suspended, but Araujo shines once more


Barcelona's problems increase when de Jong was ruled out after the Cádiz draw, but fans only one player for special praise

The Barcelona fans have taken to social media in numbers tonight to sing the praises of defender Ronald Araujo.

Ronald Koeman’s men were back in action recently.

The Blaugrana, fresh from a totally unpredictable opening of the new campaign, made the trip to the minnows of Cádiz, desperate for a much-needed three-point loot.

When all was said and done at the Nuevo Mirandilla Stadium, however, again, Barça fell short.

A thoroughly disappointing display, during which the Catalan giants were limited to a handful of half chances by their stubborn hosts, eventually saw both sides forced to settle for a share of the loot.

Meanwhile, adding to Barcelona’s woes is the fact that star midfielder Frenkie de Jong was sent to an early bathroom, after receiving a pair of yellow cards in completely questionable circumstances.

The Dutchman, long a key player at the heart of Blaugrana midfield, will now be suspended for the club’s meeting with Levante this weekend.

De Jong joins prominent midfielder Pedri on Sunday’s absentee list, with the Spanish star sidelined at the moment with a muscle injury.

Araujo the outstanding

However, despite the disappointing end result at the Nuevo Mirandilla, there were nonetheless a couple of positives that can be taken away from the proceedings from Barca’s perspective on Thursday night.

And the most indisputable, without a doubt, came in the form of the last exhibition by Ronald Araujo.

The Uruguayan stopper Araujo proved to be the hero last time, when Koeman and company. They were forced to come back from a goal against to snatch a point at home from Granada.

And, against Cádiz, once again, the 22-year-old stood well above the rest of the Blaugrana stars, looking serene on the ball, almost unbeatable in the rear and the only driving force in the middle of a worrying night of work.
