Wenger hopes for VAR protection

Former Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger recently reflected on the importance of VAR in protecting footballers from injury.

The Alsatian icon who spent 22 seasons in North London believes the system has afforded attacking players in the modern game additional respect and, by extension, protection when it comes to the more physical aspects of the game.

In speaking to The Telegraph (quoted by the Independent), Wenger briefly reflected on the physical situation of the game and how it is seen in the media;

“I see more positivity. Before there were more kicks and I must say that the media allowed it ”.

“The VAR has brought more respect for the offensive game. Sometimes the more technical guys got kicked. Why? It wasn’t very encouraging. We have moved on from that. “

Former Arsenal players could have benefited from VAR

Arsenal with Arsène took the field with caution countless times during the good times with Wenger. “Wengerball” was thriving, and the technical art on display in both Highbury and the Emirates was a sight to see, but the downside always came from each opponent resorting to aggression as a way to counteract their inability to keep up. rhythm in the refined arts of soccer.

Arsène Wenger says VAR will help reduce injuries as he regrets the former Arsenal duo's careers

As such, the legendary Gunners manager feels responsible for the injury problems seen over the years by the likes of Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey;

“We always try. Sometimes it was a frustration. When I look back at players like [Jack] Wilshere, [Aaron] Ramsey, who was injured early in his career and when you’re a coach you feel very responsible for that. “

Although neither Wilshere nor Ramsey had the high-level longevity at the club that they were both undoubtedly capable of, Ramsey eventually found his way to Juventus while maintaining an influential presence on the Welsh pitch over the years. As for Wilshere, recent rumors that the former Hale End graduate was scheduled to return to the club on a training-only deal is further proof that the 29-year-old barely scratched the surface in a career that was almost guaranteed. That would result in stardom if it weren’t for the injuries.
