Dele Alli talks about his new role at Tottenham with Nuno

Dele Alli’s Tottenham struggles

Dele Alli has had a pretty spectacular fall from grace in recent years.

The 25-year-old was once one of the brightest English talents in football and seemed poised for an excellent career.

However, in the past two years, Alli’s form has plummeted. It began at the end of Mauricio Pochettino’s reign and, barring a brief upturn to the right when José Mourinho took over, continued throughout the Portuguese period as well.

Of course, Mourinho often banked Alli, so he didn’t have many opportunities to prove himself.

But at the end of last season, when Mourinho left and this season with Nuno Espirito Santo, Alli once again has not shown even close to his best moment.

Alli on his new role at Tottenham

With Nuno, Alli has generally been used as No. 8 in a three-man midfield.

This is not the position we saw him in when he was scoring goals and assists for Spurs. That position was No. 10, and Alli went on to form an excellent association with Harry Kane when he was used in that role.

Now, Alli has been discussing her new role with Nuno. But, while he’s fairly new to Spurs fans, Alli insists she enjoys playing him and had used him in this position before signing for the Lilywhites.

“Number eight is a position that I enjoy playing. However, it is not something new to me.

“When I signed here, I had never played the role of number 10. So, for me, it’s quite natural to play there, and I enjoy being there.

“I think when you’re with a team like Tottenham, you’re happy to be anywhere on the pitch, so wherever I play, I’ll do my best and hopefully that’s enough.”
