Biereth scores a hat-trick as Arsenal’s 10 under-23 men riot against Chelsea

Highlights: Biereth hits a hat-trick and Balogun's creative qualities shine through as Arsenal's 10 under-23 men riot against Chelsea

An overall excellent weekend for Arsenal was added to this afternoon, as the club’s Under-23 side edged out six rivals from the capital, Chelsea.

Odegaard on target

Mikel Arteta’s first team, of course, was back in action 24 hours ago.

After leaving behind a dismal opening to the season thanks to a 1-0 takedown of Norwich City, the Gunners made the trip to Turf Moor, aiming for two wins in a row.

And, when all was said and done in Lancashire, this is precisely what Arsenal did, courtesy of a similar marker.

A lone goal proved all that was required for North Londoners on the day, scored by Norwegian creator Martin Odegaard at the half hour mark.

After Bukayo Saka was downed on the edge of the Burnley area, the arrival of summer to the Emirates stepped forward to bend a sumptuous effort beyond the clutches of Nick Pope:

Defeated blues

However, as described above, on Sunday, the Gunners senior team has been firmly eclipsed.

This comes with the club’s under-23 squad meeting their Chelsea counterparts not long ago, in a Premier League 2 clash.

Kevin Betsy’s men made the trip to Kingsmeadow tail-up, having enjoyed a solid start to the season, en route to nine points out of twelve available.

And, when all was said and done in West London, to say that Arsenal continued to impress would be to put it lightly.

Surprisingly, the visitors went on to put six beyond their rivals in the capital, amid a full performance from the team. What makes the result even more impressive is the fact that, for a full 55 minutes, the Gunners were forced to navigate the proceedings with just ten men, after Omar Rekik was sent in for an early bath.

The undisputed star of the show at Kingsmeadow came in the form of Mika Biereth, who, a few months after moving to North London from Fulham, scored his first hat-trick in the Arsenal colors.

Strike partner Folarin Balogun is of course already a regular face in Mikel Arteta’s high-level setup, also completely impressed, on his way to a brace.

However, it was the 20-year-old’s creative abilities that were widely picked up by viewers of Sunday’s clash, with particular help splitting the defense (at 1:25 in the video below) for the hero of the hat-trick, Biereth, had tasted nothing less than world-class.

Check out the highlights of Sunday’s academy derby below, a result that has since seen Arsenal climb to second in the Premier League 2 table.
