Sadio Mane makes Premier League history with first game against Crystal Palace

Why was Sadio Mane's first game against Palace so important in the history of Liverpool and the Premier League?

Liverpool star Sadio Mane recorded his name in the history books of both the club and Premier Leiague this afternoon during the Reds’ encounter with Crystal Palace.

Liverpool in front

Mane and company are of course currently in action at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s men welcomed the aforementioned Palace in Merseyside, aiming to move clearly to the top of the Premier League table, courtesy of a fourth win in five.

And, as it stands, this is precisely what the hosts are heading for.

With 45 minutes played, Liverpool led the Eagles by a goal to nil, courtesy of Sadio Mane’s shot just before half-time.

After Mohamed Salah led a Kostas Tsimikas corner kick from the left on goal with a rare header effort, Vicente Guaita was on hand for a superb one-handed save.

Mane, however, was not wrong on the rebound, rattling home from an acute angle to send the Anfield faithful to rousing celebrations.

Well making history

And, as described above, Mane’s last goal for Liverpool red proved significant in much more than simply giving the hosts the upper hand on Saturday.

This comes with the Senegalese attacker who has engraved his name in the Merseysiders history books, as the last member of the centurion’s club:

Not only that, but Mane also secured a piece of Premier League history, as the first and only player to find the net in nine consecutive appearances against the same opponent:
