The latest worrying incident of crowd problems in the top flight of French football occurred this afternoon.

All square

The incident in question occurred during the last Derby du Nord meeting between Lens and Lille.

The two sides are currently facing off in a Ligue 1 showdown, with the visitors who have entered proceedings in desperate search of the three points, on the back of a lousy start to their title defense.

However, it was the hosts Lens who finally dominated the first 45 minutes.

However, when the halftime whistle sounded, the score closed at 0-0 amid a tense atmosphere at Stade Bollaert-Delelis.

Lens fans wreak havoc

However, as described above, it is not the action between the two sets of players that has drawn attention across the soccer landscape on Saturday night.

Instead, this has come in the form of another case of mass unrest at the top level of France.

Just a few weeks after the chaos that finally culminated with players, staff and fans alike being punished with bans in the rear of a near-riot during the Nice-Marseille meeting, the Stade Bollaert-Delelis pitch was too much flooded by members of the crowd.

Those in question came from the Lens winger, who, at the halftime whistle blew their way towards the visiting fans, across the field, only to be thwarted in their efforts to enter the stands by the police presence present.
